Subjects Charged After Investigation of Armed Robbery Incident

On September 26, 2017, at 7:04 PM, Crystal Lake Police responded to the Police Department for a delayed report of an armed robbery involving a male juvenile victim. Officers arriving initially determined the victim had sustained a minor, non-life threatening stab wound to the arm, as a result of the robbery in which his wallet and approximately $400.00 was taken.

Crystal Lake detectives immediately initiated a criminal investigation, conducting several interviews and exploring numerous leads, while experiencing a lack of cooperation from the victim. The Crystal Lake detectives’ investigation quickly uncovered that at around 5:00PM on September 26, the victim knowingly entered a vehicle while in the 200 block of Ridge Avenue, occupied by three other males. An altercation between the victim and male occupants soon thereafter occurred, when one of the males displayed a knife while attempting to rob the victim. A struggle ensued as the victim was attempting to exit the vehicle. The knife was used as a weapon to inflict minor injury during the planned robbery, resulting in the victim’s wallet, cash, and some cannabis being taken by force.

On September 27, 2017, Crystal Lake detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Armando Masegosa (18) of 216 Hickory Drive, Crystal Lake.  Crystal Lake Police arrested Armando the very same day.  He was charged with the following offenses:

  • AggravatedBattery/Deadly Weapon, 720 ILCS 5.0/12-3.05 (a)(1), a Class 3 Felony
  • Aggravated Battery /Public Place, 720 ILCS 5.0/12-3.05 (c), a Class 3 Felony
  • Armed Robbery, 720 ILCS 5.0/18-2 (a)(1), a Class X Felony

Armando was unable to post the $100,000 bond.  He was transported to the McHenry County Jail in Woodstock for confinement.  His next court date is scheduled for October 2, 2017, at the McHenry County Courthouse.

Crystal Lake Police arrested another offender, a 17 year-old male. He will be charged as a juvenile for the following criminal offense:

  • Armed Robbery, 720 ILCS 5.0/18-2 (a)(1), a Class X Felony

The juvenile was transported to the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center located in St. Charles, Illinois, where he remains confined pending a hearing in juvenile court.

The third male juvenile occupant of the suspect vehicle was not charged.
