Understanding Your Property Tax Bill

Dollar Bill blue background (800x374)

The City of Crystal Lake judiciously maintains a culture of spending controls and when compared with surrounding communities which provide similar services, Crystal Lake’s portion of a property owner’s tax bill is among the lowest. Since 1997, Crystal Lake has not levied a property tax for the General Fund, and as a result, only approximately 10% of a property tax bill is for services provided by the City of Crystal Lake.

The remainder of your property tax bill is allocated to other separate governmental bodies, including the School Districts, McHenry County, McHenry County College, McHenry County Conservation District, the Crystal Lake Park District, the Crystal Lake Library, and the township where your property is located.
