Country Club Multi-use Path

This project will add a multi-use path on the south side of Country Club Road between the Wedgewood Subdivision and South Elementary School. The City received a $250,000 federal Safe Routes to School grant for the project. Construction is scheduled to start in the spring of 2016.

Project Updates 

  • September 21, 2016:  The signs were installed on September 21.   
  • September 14, 2016: This project is substantially complete. Sign placement will be completed in the next few weeks and the minor pavement markings will be completed with the annual resurfacing program.    
  • September 7, 2016:  The path was paved and the gravel shoulder placed (a gravel shoulder is required per IDOT). Final landscaping, sign placement and minor pavement markings will be completed next.   
  • August 31, 2016: The contractor will be paving the path on Friday September 2.
  • August 30, 2016: The final grades for the path have been set and approved. The paving of the path will occur on September 2. As an item to note, the bridge is 14 feet wide per IDOT requirements as the bridge is required to be the path width (8 feet) plus 3 feet of clear zone on either side. 
  • August 24, 2016:  The pedestrian bridge was installed on August 24. Pouring of the remaining concrete for the bridge abutments occurred on August 25. Paving of the path is now scheduled for August 31 as the rain on August 24 put the paving contractor behind schedule. 
  • August 17, 2016:  The bridge abutments which hold the new pedestrian bridge is substantially complete. The installation of the empty conduit was completed and the contractor is working to finish the final grading of the path. The pedestrian bridge is on schedule to be installed on August 24 with paving the new path on August 29.
  • August 10,2016:  The bridge abutments which hold the new pedestrian bridge continued. The contractor started installing the empty conduit for the fiber optic, this work will be completed next week. Next week they will work on final grading of the path.
  • August 3, 2016: The bridge abutments which hold the new pedestrian bridge continued. The concrete at Country Club Road and Golf Road was poured. The incorrect material was delivered for the fiber optic conduit so work to install it was not started on August 1. The new material is anticipated to arrive August 5 with the contractor starting as quickly as possible afterwards.  
  • July 27, 2016: Cutting of the ditch line on either side of the new path is substantially complete. The bridge abutments which hold the new pedestrian bridge continued. The concrete work at either end of the project limits is anticipated to start next. Installation of the empty fiber optic cable is anticipated to start as soon as the materials arrive. 
  • July 20, 2016:  The contractor continues cutting the ditch line on either side of the new path. The bridge abutments which hold the new pedestrian bridge were framed. Concrete work for these abutments continues.
  • July 13, 2016: The contractor continues cutting the ditch line on either side of the new path. They will be installing the bridge abutments that hold the bridge on July 15 and 18. The contractor will not be working along the area near the Country Club on July 14 and 15 due to their annual golf tournament. 
  • July 6, 2016: The contractor started cutting the ditch line on either side of the new path. This work will continue next week. 
  • June 29, 2016: Undercuts are complete and placement of the aggregate subgrade is also complete except for a 200 foot section near the west end of the improvement where an underdrain needs to be repaired. Tree removal occurred near the creek. A large old oak tree was also removed west of Essex. This tree was starting to die and in discussions with the Crystal Lake Country Club it was requested that the City utilized the bike path contractor to remove the tree now instead of in a few years.
  • June 24, 2016: Due to the lack of a state budget, IDOT is requiring all road construction projects that have federal funding, including this one, to shut down on July 1, 2016. The contractor is working to complete as much work as possible before the project is shut down. During the shutdown, should it occur, the contractor will be responsible to maintain the existing traffic control to ensure the project area remains safe for the motoring public.
  • June 22, 2016: Topsoil striping is complete. Undercuts continue and placement of the aggregate subgrade started. The contractor hopes to complete the aggregate subgrade next week, pending weather. The contractor is aware of the fourth of July events and the Lakeside Legacy festival. They will not be working while the festival is occurring and will ensure all areas are safe and clean.
  • June 8, 2016: Topsoil striping continues and the contractor will start undercuts of the soil to install the new aggregate base on June 10. 
  • June 1, 2016: Installation of the storm sewer structures and pipe have been installed. Topsoil stripping continues.
  • May 25, 2016: The contractor completed sidewalk removal and removal of the old wire fence. They also installed the silt fence. Next week they will start topsoil stripping.   
  • May 18, 2016: The contractor completed construction staking and the installation of silt fence is scheduled for May 19.   
  • May 11, 2016: No work has commenced to date as the contractor is working on getting all the necessary approvals from IDOT. The contractor hopes to start installing the silt fence next week. 
  • May 4, 2016: The IDOT preconstruction meeting was held on May 3. The contractor will be installing the silt fence next week. They anticipate excavation starting on May 16. 
  • April 21, 2016: The preconstruction meeting with IDOT and the contractor is scheduled for May 3.
  • April 4, 2016: ComEd relocations of two poles started. 
  • March 4, 2016: The construction bids were opened by IDOT and the apparent low bidder was PirTano Construction Company
  • April 20, 2015: The preliminary phase 1 engineering report was approved by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
