CFL Stands for Compact Fluorescent Light bulb. It uses 66-75% percent less energy than an incandescent bulb, lasts 6-10 times longer and can be used in an ordinary light socket. How do I safely dispose of expired and unused medicines?
A medication drop-off box is available to dispose of unused or expired medications. The collection container is located in the lobby of the Crystal Lake Police Department and is available from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday except for holidays.
Only legally prescribed medications or over-the-counter medications in tablet, pill, or powder form will be accepted. Liquids, creams, needles or other sharp instruments used with any particular medication will not be accepted. For more information, contact the Crystal Lake Police Department.

Can I burn leaves and landscapes waste within the city limits?
The city code prohibits the open burning of any trash or other material. Recreational fires and bonfires are also prohibited unless a special permit is obtained from the Fire Rescue Department. To aid residents, the City offers free brush pickup in the spring and leaf pickup in the fall. Brush and leaf drop off dates are scheduled throughout the summer. Does the department service, recharge or dispose of old fire extinguishers?
Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department does not service or refill fire extinguishers. Check online or the phonebook for a list of professional fire extinguisher companies that have the proper equipment to service them.
