 OPENING A BUSINESS


BUSINESS LICENSE

The City of Crystal Lake does not require a general business license, however, liquor sales, businesses selling tobacco, businesses offering electronic amusement devices (video games), taxi cabs, and mobile ice cream vendors do require special licenses.  Please contact the City Manager's Office to apply for any of the licenses mentioned above.

All other businesses can start by contacting the Planning and Economic Development Department at (815) 356-3615 to have a staff member guide you along the way in establishing your business here in Crystal Lake.

CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY REQUIRED
Every business is required to obtain a Certificate of Occupancy, even those who may be relocating within the City limits or changing the name of your business.  Please click here to download a copy of our two-page occupancy application form.  When complete, please file the occupancy application form with the City's Building Department via email at lfitzgerald@crystallake.org, or in person at City Hall.

SMALL BUSINESS SERVICES
Do you need a business plan or help determining if there is a market for your idea in Crystal Lake?  The
Illinois Small Business Development Center is a great resource to new business endeavors.  The ISBDC provides free business resources to McHenry County businesses that employ up to 500 people. For more information, contact Kristi Patterson at (815) 455-6098, or you can email her at sbdc@mchenry.edu.

COUNTY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT RESOURCES
The McHenry County Economic Development Corporation is a non-profit private-public business advocacy group comprised of business and industry investors from throughout the county. The mission of the McHenry County EDC is to encourage and develop the economic health of McHenry County through the retention, expansion, and attraction of commerce and industry which is conducive to an optimal quality of life for its citizens.
