The Citizen Police Academy is an eleven-week program designed to give the participants a working knowledge of the Crystal Lake Police Department. The Citizen Police Academy consists of a series of classes, discussions and demonstrations of the operations and divisions of the Crystal Lake Police Department. The goal of the Citizen Police Academy is to provide for a safer community by utilizing education in order to enhance understanding, increase positive communication and foster a partnership between the citizens and the Police Department.
To be a participant you must be at least 18 years of age, pass a criminal background check and sign a waiver and hold harmless agreement. Enrollment is open to all, with priority given to Crystal Lake residents and those who work in the City. Class size will be limited to 25 students; a minimum of 10 participants will be required to hold the Academy. The Citizen Police Academy is offered free of charge.
