Fishing Guidelines
Three Oaks is a catch-and-release fishing facility only. A valid Illinois Fishing License is required. No "live" bait is allowed, defined as aquatic bait/minnows. Contrary to Illinois State Law, we do not allow taking of smaller fish (or any lake creature) and using them as bait for larger fish.
Shoreline fishing is available year-round during open park hours. Please dispose of any litter or trash in garbage receptacles located on the trails. Alcohol and open fires are prohibited along the trails, and ice fishing is not allowed at Three Oaks.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources performs an annual study to determine fish species and conditions of populations. Populations include: Muskellunge, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Yellow Bass, Rock Bass, Channel Catfish, Northern Pike, Walleye, and Pan Fish, including Bluegill and Yellow Perch.
Fishing Licenses
As of January 2022, Three Oaks no longer sells Illinois fishing licenses through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). Guests can purchase their Illinois fishing licenses on the IDNR website. The IDNR website contains a list of local agencies where a license can be purchased.
