Responsibilities

The Fire Rescue Department provides quality emergency response, maintains preparedness through continuous training, prioritizes exceptional customer service, and participates in the community with non-emergency services.

The Department's main services include: fire protection, emergency medical care, fire inspections, public education, hazardous material response, water rescue, and special team response (i.e. trench, confined space, rope, and dive rescue). The Fire Protection Area Map describes Fire Rescue's coverage area in the City of Crystal Lake, the Crystal Lake Rural Fire Protection District, and the Village of Lakewood.

Mission

The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department through its highly motivated and skilled team of professionals is committed to establishing services designed to protect life and property, improving service through professional interaction, and providing the best possible service to the community.

Amendment to Burn Ordinance

On April 19, 2022, the Crystal Lake City Council approved an amendment to the City's burn ordinance to no longer require a physical burn permit for recreational burning. The burn ordinance otherwise remains the same, and may be referenced here.

Additional Services

The Department automatically sends aid to the Nunda Rural Fire Protection District, Huntley Fire Protection District, McHenry Township Fire Protection District, and the Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District. Additionally, the Department provides frequent aid to communities in McHenry County, Lake County, and Kane County through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS). If you would like to request a personal medical report, please contact the Fire Rescue Department.

Annual Report

The Fire Rescue Chief writes an Annual Report to the City Manager, which describes the Department's accomplishments and challenges over the previous year.
